1999 Football Team

Bio

Arguably the two best football teams in school history, the 1998 and 1999 Midview High School Football teams had potent offences and strong defenses complimented by strong special teams play.

The success of these two teams was well prophesized by the success of a 1996 freshman team which became the core of the 1998 and 1999 teams. They compiled a respectable record of five wins and five losses as sophomores.

Led by co-captains Craig Kowalski and Scott Taylor, the ‘98 team compiled a record of 10 wins and 2 losses. The first Midview team to reach the post-season playoffs, they defeated Revere 27 to 24 and lost to Mayfield 35 to 21 in the regional semi-final game. They rushed for 3695 yards and passed for 714. They held their opponents to 1192 rushing yards and 856 yards passing. They averaged 6.7 yards per carry to their opponents’ 3.0. They scored 431 points to their opponents’ 134.

The ’99 team was essentially the ’98 team with the exception of nine graduating seniors and a strong group of underclassmen. They finished with a record of 10 wins and a loss in the playoffs to Wadsworth 42 to 35 in a game considered to be the “best they had ever seen” by the majority of the 7,000 fans who attended the game. The ’99 team rushed for 4472 yards and passed for 1011. They held there opponents to 955 yards rushing and 1198 passing. They averaged 8.8 yards per carry to their opponents 2.9. They were so dominant that the second and third teams took over in the middle of the third quarter in the majority of their games. They led their arch- rival Wellington, who was 8-1 at the time, 35 to 0 at halftime and won by a final score of 56-0. Brett Boron set a single game rushing record of 324 yards in that game. Don Rozanski and Tim Hopkins were the “Lombardi” award winners and Dan Rozanski won the “Golden Helmet” award.

The 1998 and 1999 Midview football teams included several all conference, all district, regional and all state recognitions. They provided thrills for Midview fans that will be hard to surpass by future teams and they certainly set the standard for all the teams that would follow.
