Midview to Recognize Retired Jersey Honorees January 23
Midview Athletics is excited to welcome its three former student-athletes who have their Midview jersey retired back to campus Tuesday (January 23) for Legends Night. Joe Staysniak '85, Anthony Stacey '95 and Ryan Feierabend '03 will be recognized during halftime of the Varsity Boys Basketball game against Amherst Steele High School. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m.
As part of the Kubuski Gymnasium renovations which took place this past summer, the retired jerseys of all three former Middies were added to the Shipyard wall. This will be the first time all three Midview legends are back on campus together in a very long time (if ever) and a perfect opportunity to reintroduce them to the current generation of Midview students and fans.
Staysniak was a standout lineman for the Midview Football team in the mid 1980s. He earned All-Conference, All-County and All-Ohio honors during his career. Staysniak was voted the Lorain County Class AAA Defensive Lineman of the Year and was the Lorain County Lombardi award winner as a senior in 1984. He went on to captain The Ohio State University football team as their left tackle, earning various athletic and academic awards. Staysniak was drafted in the 7th round by the San Diego Chargers in 1990. He played in 63 NFL games for the Buffalo Bills, Kansas City Chiefs, Indianapolis Colts and Arizona Cardinals before retiring in 1996. Following his retirement he worked in the sports radio industry for more than two decades in Indianapolis. Joe was a member of the inaugural Midview Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2001 and had his jersey retired on February 4, 1994.
Stacey cemented himself as the top Midview Boys Basketball player in program history during the mid 1990s. He remains the school's all-time leading scorer in all categories, including 1,771 career points. Stacey earned Lorain County Mr. Basketball, Plain Dealer Player of the Year and All-Ohio first team honors as a senior in 1995. Anthony went on to Bowling Green State University where he earned MAC Freshmen of the Year and then MAC Player of the Year as a senior. During his time with the Falcons he set many records, including career points and steals. Following graduation, Stacey played professionally in Spain for 9 seasons. Following retirement in 2010 he got into coaching at the high school level before transitioning to a college assistant at Toledo and Bowling Green. He returned to the high school ranks in 2020 and is now in his fourth year leading Whitmer High School in Toledo. Anthony is also a member of the inaugural Midview Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2001 and had his jersey retired on December 27, 2002.
Feierabend established a new standard of excellence for the Midview Baseball program during the early 2000s. He was a two-time league MVP and All-Ohio recipient. He finished with 23 career wins, 374 career strikeouts and 1.55 career ERA for the Middies. Feierabend was selected by the Seattle Mariners in Round 3 of the 2003 MLB draft. He made his MLB debut three years later and ultimately played professionally for almost two decades, which included stints with Texas and Toronto as well as in South Korea and China. He returned home to Lorain County to play a final season for the Lake Erie Crushers before retiring in 2021. Feierabend currently works for the Cleveland Clinic while also assisting the Middies' 8th Grade Boys Basketball team. Ryan was a member of the 2013 Midview Athletic Hall of Fame Class and had his jersey retired on May 14, 2021.
