Bio
Dan May begins his 13th year as the Athletics Director for Midview Local Schools in 2025-26. May has been an athletic administrator for the past 22 years, including the last 14 as an interscholastic athletics administrator. Prior to working at Midview, he was the athletic director for Clearview Local Schools for two years and the Sports Information Director at his alma mater, Marietta College, for eight years.
A 1999 graduate of Avon Lake High School, Dan played both baseball and basketball for the Avon Lake Shoremen. In 1999, he was named the SWC MVP and an All-Ohio first team selection after leading his baseball squad to a 21-1 record. Dan was inducted into the Avon Lake Sports Hall of Fame in 2021. He continued his academic and athletic career at Marietta where he played four years on the baseball team, including the National Runners-Up squads of 2001 and 2002. He was named All-Ohio Athletic Conference in 2002 while being selected Academic All-OAC in 2002 and 2003. He graduated cum laude from Marietta with a Bachelor of Arts in Management in 2003, continuing on to earn his Master's of Corporate Media in 2009.
As the Sports Information Director at Marietta College, Dan undertook all of the media relations responsibilities associated with the athletic department. He provided coverage for its 2006 and 2011 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III National Championship runs in baseball. He also hosted a variety of Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Championships, the 2010 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championship, and the 2010 and 2011 NCAA Division III Mideast Regional Baseball Championships.
During Dan’s tenure, Midview has hosted 12 Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) Division I district volleyball tournaments, as well as district tournaments in boys basketball and track & field and sectional tournaments in boys golf and wrestling. In addition, Midview has also hosted various West Shore Conference and Southwestern Conference Tournaments.
Dan has served two terms as the president of the Lorain County Athletic Administrators Association (LCAAA) and was named the LCAAA Athletic Director of the Year in 2017-18. Dan oversees boys golf and bowling for the Southwestern Conference. In 2013, Dan was awarded the Northeast Ohio Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NEOIAAA) Horizon Award. He received the NEOIAAA Meritorious Service Award in 2018 and was named the NEOIAAA and Ohio Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (OIAAA) Athletic Director of the Year in 2019.
Dan joined the OHSAA's Northeast District Athletic Board (NEDAB) as a AA interim representative in 2024-25.
